Audi’s famous Quattro all-wheel drive system is perfect for winter because it gives you more confidence and it gives the vehicle impressive winter driving capabilities

An advanced system

The Quattro system is a full-time all-wheel drive system, which means it directs power to every wheel at all times, not just when slippage is detected, which eliminates the delay present in other systems. Quattro features a lockable center differential that can make both the front and rear axles rotate at the same speed to better face tough conditions such as deep snow or very slick roads. The Quattro name is applied to a variety of systems that are tailored to the vehicle they are used in. Most Audi models are equipped with a version that can split the torque of the engine in a 50/50 manner, meaning that half of the torque can go to either axle when needed. Other versions provide 60/40 splits.

Many advantages

Out on the road, these features translate into sporty dynamics on the dry and safe handling on the wet. The fact that the system is full-time allows for quicker reactions, since all wheels are already powered. This increases stability and gives traction when you need it, without a delay like other systems have. The lockable center coupling allows for impressive capabilities on inhospitable terrains and the torque split contributes both to handling feel, by sending more power to the rear in accelerations and to the side in turns, but also to the safety provided by Quattro, because it allows better roadholding even when some wheels don’t have a lot of traction. The Quattro system is also made to be compact and light, which gives better driving characteristics than other all-wheel drive systems, which are often heavy.
