The Audi A4 Allroad comes from a long line of Audis that really pioneered the off-road wagon segment that has since been mimicked by other German and Japanese manufacturers alike. They make fine products, but the A4 Allroad is one of the originators, so what helps it rise above the rest?
Styling
The A4 Allroad, of course, starts life as an A4 wagon in other markets so it has all the great physical attributes wagons are known for; strong profile, aggressive front end, squat stance and perfect proportions.
In Allroad spec, of course, it gets even bolder thanks to the addition of flared fenders with plastic covers and plastic rocker panels. In addition to that, you have chunkier wheel designs, underbody skidplates and heftier roof rails, making it look like a vehicle that’s ready to take on the world.
Quattro
The A4 Allroad’s Quattro AWD system, meanwhile, means it has the chassis technology to take on the world as well. With its always-on tuning and ability to shuffle power to the axle that needs it most, it takes some extra challenging terrain to stop it.
The Allroad’s 2.0-litre inline-4 serves as the perfect complement to the chassis, making a strong 261 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, all controlled by a 7-speed S Tronic automatic transmission and all working in perfect harmony.
Practicality
While you may not know it from looking at it, there’s as much cargo space – if not more – in the Allroad as there is in many crossovers and small SUVs offered the world over. Hauling longer items is a breeze and once you have loaded everything, you get the added benefit of being able to haul it with gumption thanks to its sports sedan underpinnings.
