Lane Departure Warning Explained

Lane Departure Warning Explained

Lane departure warning is becoming more and more commonplace on modern vehicles, but what is it exactly? And how does it work? And why would you want it on your Audi? If you’re asking yourself these questions, let us give you a quick explanation.

Sometimes referred to as Lane Keep Assist, lane departure warning has a dozen or so fancy names in the industry, but every system essentially works the same way. Using a set of cameras and sensors, LDW can detect the markings on the road and more importantly, it can detect if you happen to swerve out of your lane.

If that should happen, a visual and audible signal will be heard. Sometimes, LDW is paired with lane departure prevention which can bring you back into the middle of the lane automatically.

In some of our more luxurious Audi models, there’s even a system that will steer the car automatically when a curve is detected. Visit us today at Glenmore Audi to learn more.
