The Q5 and Q7 are a part of Audi's outstanding lineup of crossovers. We receive many questions about their differences, so we present some of the most common to help you make the right purchase.

How the powertrains compare Both feature two engines in their lineups. The Q5 features an all-petrol turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The Q7 also offers this same engine as that lineup's all-petrol offering, and it results in the same power and torque specs.

The Q5 and Q7 each offer a hybrid engine. The Q5 combines the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with an electric motor that outputs 367 net horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Q7 combines a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder with an electric motor that achieves 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Both hybrid engines are similar in output, but since the Q7 is larger and heavier than the Q5, the slightly fewer horsepower positively affects fuel efficiency with its larger and heavier frame.

If you want a boost in performance and don't need the extra volume, the lighter Q5 is a great choice. The heavier and larger Q7 will moderate available power, but it is still well above average.

How the Q5 and Q7 differ inside Overall, the Q7 is longer than the Q5 by over 400 mm, for a total of 5,070 mm. It enables the Q7 to have three standard passenger rows that seat seven passengers. The Q5 is designed with two rows. If you have a large family or have another reason to fit more people or cargo, then the Q7 is a better choice.

The Q5 offers 1,710 litres of maximum cargo volume behind the front seats, which is still plenty when you flex the second row and load up on what your lifestyle needs. The Q7 increases this available volume to 2,027 litres.

With the Q7's larger size, it carries an edge over the Q5 in available passenger headroom, leg room, and shoulder room. However, Audi still ensures optimal passenger volume in the Q5. Front row occupants enjoy 1,059 mm of head room, 1041 mm of leg room, and 1,466 mm of shoulder room. The rear row provides 998, 960, and 1,435 mm of respective measurements.
