The Q7 and Q8 offer luxury and other amenities that place them among the best of their SUV segments. Inside and out, both share Quattro DNA that infuses driving dynamics and handling feel that is exclusively Audi.

We receive a lot of questions about their differences as buyers gather information when making a purchasing decision. Here, we break down a few primary differences to help you get started.

The Q7 and Q8 explore style differences

The Q7 begins with a stylish, sporty front that leads to a slightly sloping roofline and convenient tailgate at the rear. Buyers who desire more functionality and the look of an SUV will enjoy the Q7. The Q8 increases the slope of the roofline, finalizing into a more streamlined and sporty appearance at the rear of the vehicle. If you prefer more 'car' in your crossover, the Q8 serves that niche.

The Q7 and Q8 have powertrain similarities and differences

The Q7 Quattro and Progressiv offer the 45 TFSI, a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder that outputs 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This offers plenty of power and response for drivers who also have an eye on efficiency. If you frequent stop-and-go commutes and urban areas, this may be the practical solution for your needs.

Both vehicles also offer the 55 TFSI, a 3.0L turbocharged V6 that produces 335 horsepower and a racy 369 lb-ft of torque.

The most powerful engine in the Q7 lineup is in the SQ7 with the 500-horsepower 4.0-litre turbocharged V8. The same engine is used in the SQ8.

The Q8 lineup’s secret weapon is the RS Q8, which pushes the 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 to a whopping 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

How the Q7 and Q8 deviate inside

Before we discuss differences, both interiors have more in common than not. They share many of the same styling, passenger seating dimensions, advanced technology and safety systems. A test drive of both will reveal a similar look and feel.

However, both fulfill slightly different niches in the Audi lineup. The Q7 is longer and higher than the Q8 and allows more front and rear head room. The cargo volume increases to 2,000 litres available behind the front seats compared to just over 1,700 in the Q8. The Q7 also has a third row, a feature that the Q8 doesn’t have.
